The Coastguard Initial Response Team was asked to attend to a sailor who had fallen and gashed is head on the spinnaker winch. The 30 ft yacht was on route to Cowes for the annual Round the Island Race and had briefly moored on the visitor mooring at Lyme Regis. The crew member was taken ashore by the sailing club safety boat. Portland Coastguard had requested the launch of the RNLI inshore lifeboat but this proved unnecessary. The casualty was attended to by the RNLI paramedic and was able to rejoin the boat immediately to continue their journey to the Isle of Wight.
