The IRT was tasked, together with the inshore lifeboat and the coastguard helicopter, to assist with a capsized kayaker. The 48 year old woman had been upturned in the surf and had then been swept under the breakers and onto the shore. The casualty had sustained a number of minor injuries to her legs and ankles. Due to an underlying medical condition, she was airlifted to hospital in Exeter. The lady was an experienced kayaker and was equipped with all the necessary safety equipment.
