The IRT was tasked to rescue a man who had climbed 30 metres up a muddy cliff from the beach to help his injured dog. The spaniel, called Scrappy, had a suspected broken leg. The incident occurred near Ridge Water close to St Gabriels Mouth, east of Charmouth. A coastguard managed to reach the man and decided that, with impending high spring tide, the only safe way off the cliff was with the assistance of the helicopter.
The casualty and his injured pet were airlifted to a helicopter landing site at Charmouth. The coastguards made sure the casualty was safe and well before the dog was taken to a local vet.
