The IRT was tasked to investigate three reports of a new cliff fall 500 metres to the west of the steps at St Gabriels. After the early morning rain, the first report indicated that rocks were still falling and rolling across the beach to the sea. The coastguard checked that nobody had been injured. The exact location of the 2,000 tonne fall was recorded so that in the event in any future incident, safe access could be established. The size of the fall would also make access to other parts of the beach extremely difficult at high tide.
