The IRT was tasked to investigate four females in an inflatable dinghy apparently drifting 200 metres off shore. Initial reports suggested that the ladies had ignored safety advice from the RNLI lifeguards and were heading towards Charmouth, 3km to the east. The Coastguards kept the dinghy under surveillance for 30 minutes, before they eventually came ashore at the main beach in Lyme. The ladies had no safety equipment or communications equipment. These inflatable dinghies are wholly inappropriate to make such a journey.
