2010 Incident #56 12.09.10 0905UTC #4538

The IRT was tasked to assist the RNLI with the a small motor vessel that sunk just outside Lyme Regis harbour. The vessel had collided with the South Cardinal buoy, tipping two of occupants into the sea; one of whom could not swim. None of the three ‘sailors’ had lifejackets and there was no other safety equipment aboard i.e. VHF radio & flares. It was the first time that the ill prepared ‘sailors’ had put to sea. Fortunately the lifeboat crew had been on routine exercise and had witnessed the accident. They were quickly able to recover the casualties from the water and avoid a far more serious incident.
