2010 Incident #57 22.09.10 1628UTC #4707

The Initial Response Team, the IRT was tasked to assist the RNLI inshore lifeboat with the recovery of a 15’ Dell Quay Dory drifting 350 metres from Gun Cliff Wharf, Lyme Regis. The boat had suffered engine failure on their auxiliary outboard engine. They had still put to sea despite not being able to start their main engine in the harbour. They had fired three flares but these had all failed because the flares had either expired or were waterlogged. The four male adult occupants were wearing lifejackets but they did not have a VHF radio. The boat was towed by the inshore lifeboat to the harbour where they were offered some safety advice.
