2011 Incident #12 16.04.11 0533UTC #1205

The Initial Response Team, the IRT, was tasked to assist the West Bay ‘flank’ Coastguard team with the rescue of a mother and a her 8 year old son from the cliffs near Hive Beach at Burton Bradstock. The team was stood down ‘en route’ as the West Bay team had enough personnel to carry out the rescue. We can happily report that the mother & son were safely recovered. At the time of the initial emergency call, the Lyme Regis Coastguard team were completing two day ‘rope rescue’ training. Every three years the whole team needs to independently assessed to ensure latest rope access & rescue standards are achieved.
