2011 Incident #16 22.04.11 0002UTC #1329

The Initial Response Team, the IRT, was tasked to assist the RNLI, Dorset Police and Marine Police with the recovery of a 6.5 metre day boat with engine failure, 3 miles south of Lyme Regis. The skipper and his one crew member seemed uncertain about their passage plans, unfamiliar with the boat and their radio messages were ‘broken’. The RNLI inshore lifeboat towed the boat into Lyme Regis harbour. The boat was searched extensively and it was established that the boat had been bought that afternoon. The skipper and his crew stayed onboard overnight and were attempting to repair the engine in the morning before heading west again.
