Whilst on a water rescue training exercise in Charmouth, the Coastguard team was altered to a father and his three daughters cut off by the tide 600 metres to the east. Two coastguards managed to reach the family and recover all the casualties to safety. The Coastguard helicopter, returning to its Portland base, from Brixham was asked to stand off and ensure the casualties and the coastguards returned safely.
One of the young girls, aged kindly wrote to say thank you. The father also wrote to express his appreciation and also his recognition of the danger of the incoming tide.
