2011 Incident #35 02.08.11 1150UTC #3599

The Initial Response Team, the IRT was tasked to reports of an overdue boat. The first informant said that the small motor boat was 1.5 hours late returning from Charmouth. The boat was located and returned to Lyme Regis. The occupant had a lifejacket and flares albeit these were out of date. He did not have a VHF radio. He had lost signal from his mobile phone 200 metres off shore. The coastguard always encourage anybody putting to sea to carry a VHF radio due to the vagaries of mobile phone signals. Everybody on board should also be able to work the VHF radio.
