The whole Coastguard team, together with the RNLI lifeboat & ground crew were tasked to the rescue of disabled 20 year old lady when her wheelchair fell off Victoria Pier into Lyme Regis harbour. Her family, members of the RNLI lifeboat crew, a coastguard, a local boatman and a paramedic dived into the water to retrieve the woman from 3 metres below the surface. After considerable difficulty because she was strapped into the wheelchair, she was brought unconscious to the surface. She was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital in a critical condition but sadly she passed away later that evening. All members of the Coastguard service and our colleagues at the RNLI would like to extend our deepest sympathies to both her family and friends.
