Her Majesty’s Coastguard – Long Service Award Ceremony 25 February 2012

Our annual presentation and dinner this year was held at the Pilot Boat in Lyme Regis. We were joined by Norman Smee, a senior member of HM Coastguard management. Norman has been responsible for all the coastguard teams and HM Coastguard facilities on the South Coast. Together with Pete Pritchard our Sector Manager, he joined us to make two very special awards. Richard Edmonds has been part of the local volunteer Coastguard team for over twenty years and as such was presented with a long service medal. The volunteers in the local rescue teams are the only individuals within the HM Coastguard who are eligible for this medal. It is issued by Royal Warrant from the Queen and is specially minted for the individual concerned. Richard has participated in over 400 rescues or ‘shouts’. The other award was made to Nigel Clarke who retired from the team after 16 years of service. Nigel helped in excess of 300 search & rescues. Both Richard & Nigel have demonstrated remarkable commitment and sense of duty as well as making an exceptional contribution to the safety of the community. The current team members would like to express our gratitude to them both and their families for their support.
