2012 Incident #6 07.04.12 1708UTC #908

The IRT was tasked to reports of two couples cut off by the high spring tides between Lyme Regis and Charmouth. The first informant was helpful and had been extremely diligent in observing the casualties. The first couple managed to return along the beach to Charmouth. The second couple had initially attempted to climb the cliffs to avoid the tide and continue their passage to Lyme. The coastguard requested the launch of the local RNLI lifeboat that would have been able to get a crew member ashore and rescue the couple if necessary. The couple made their own way to Charmouth whilst the lifeboat ensured they safely navigated the areas where the tide was in. The couple were met in Charmouth and were safe and well after their ‘adventure’.

It is a timely reminder to carefully check the tide tables and make sure that you have plenty of time to complete your journey on the beach.
