The IRT was tasked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of a 5 metre speedboat 1.5 nautical miles SW of Lyme Regis Harbour. The boat was towed in by a local fishing vessel after issuing a distress call to Portland Coastguard and other local mariners. The 3 adults and 3 children on board were safe and well despite their engine failure. The crew and the boat were well equipped with life jackets, VHF radio and flares if necessary.
