The Initial Response Team (IRT) was tasked to rescue two swimmers in the water, 100 metres west of the Cobb.  The IRT was immediately stood down when the swimmers made it safely to the beach.  However enquiries made of the harbourmaster indicated that the two ’swimmers’ were in fact two canoeists who had capsized and one of their canoes had been swept away.
